Does this support old .doc files?
Yes. The server engine reads legacy binary .doc and .dot, OpenDocument .odt and .ott, Word templates .dotx, plus .rtf, .txt, .wps, and HTML. It also recognises a file by its actual contents, so an RTF or HTML document that was saved with a .doc name still converts correctly. The browser fallback handles .docx only, so if the server is unavailable those other formats will report an error rather than convert.

It said my document uses features it cannot read. Why?
That message only comes from the browser fallback, which cannot render text boxes or shapes. Exam papers, forms, and certificates are often laid out entirely in text boxes, and converting one that way would produce a blank PDF, so the tool stops instead. The server engine reads them correctly, so simply trying again shortly is usually all that is needed.

Why can layout still change?
The server engine reproduces layout closely, but it is not Microsoft Word. Fonts not installed on the server are substituted, and very complex features such as some field codes, ActiveX objects, or intricate floating layouts can shift. Check the output before sending it on.
