About the Excel to PDF Online Free Tool

The Excel to PDF Online Free Tool converts a spreadsheet into a PDF that keeps its cell formatting, column widths, and selectable, searchable text.

Conversion runs on the IO Tools server using LibreOffice, the same engine behind most open-source document pipelines. It applies the workbook's own print setup, so page breaks, print areas, repeated header rows, and landscape or portrait orientation come through as the file defines them. Uploaded files are converted and deleted immediately; they are never stored or shared.

Unlike our image and text tools, this one has no in-browser mode. Reproducing a workbook's pagination and cell rendering needs a real spreadsheet engine, so if the server is unavailable the tool reports that plainly rather than producing a poor imitation.

How to Convert Excel to PDF Online

  1. Choose an .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .ods, or .csv file.
  2. Convert the spreadsheet to PDF.
  3. Review the preview and download the generated PDF.

Getting the Page Layout You Want

Set the print layout in your spreadsheet first:
- The converter follows the workbook's own print settings, so it does not add its own options.
- Set the print area, scaling, and orientation in Excel or Calc before converting, and the PDF will match.
- A wide sheet with no print area set will split across several pages, exactly as it would when printed.

Common Use Cases

  • Sharing a budget, invoice, or report without letting the recipient edit the figures.
  • Attaching a fixed-layout financial statement to an email or filing.
  • Archiving a workbook in a format that opens anywhere without Excel.

Quick FAQ

Will my original spreadsheet be affected?
No. The PDF is generated as a separate file.

Are files uploaded?
Yes. Reproducing spreadsheet layout with real text needs a document engine a browser does not have, so the file is sent to the IO Tools server, converted with LibreOffice, returned, and deleted immediately. It is never stored or shared.

Which formats can I convert?
Excel .xlsx, .xlsm, .xltx, and legacy .xls, plus OpenDocument .ods and .ots, and plain .csv. The file is identified by its actual contents, so a spreadsheet saved under a misleading name still converts correctly.

Are all worksheets included?
Yes. Every sheet with content is converted in workbook order. To export only one sheet, delete or hide the others first, or set a print area.

Why does my sheet split across pages?
The converter honours the workbook's print setup. A sheet wider than the page will paginate exactly as it would on a printer. Set "Fit to one page wide" or a print area in your spreadsheet app, then convert again.

Why can layout still change?
The server engine reproduces layout closely, but it is not Microsoft Excel. Fonts not installed on the server are substituted, and complex features such as some charts, macros, or ActiveX objects can shift. Check the output before sending it on.
