About the Barcode Generator Online Free Tool

The Barcode Generator Online Free Tool creates one-dimensional barcodes in CODE128, EAN13, UPC, and ITF14 formats. It can generate a barcode for an internal identifier or a correctly assigned product number, then render the result as a downloadable SVG image.

Barcode rendering takes place in your browser using the selected value, format, bar width, height, colors, and text-display setting. The generator creates the barcode image; it does not register, assign, or verify ownership of a retail product number.

How to Generate a Barcode

  1. Enter the text or number you want to encode.
  2. Choose CODE128, EAN13, UPC, or ITF14.
  3. Set the bar width and image height.
  4. Choose contrasting line and background colors.
  5. Decide whether the encoded value should appear below the bars.
  6. Select Generate Barcode, test the preview, and download the SVG.

Choosing the Correct Barcode Format

CODE128:
A flexible choice for many internal inventory, asset, ticket, and tracking identifiers. It can encode a wider range of characters than the numeric retail formats available in this tool.

EAN13 and UPC:
These formats are commonly associated with retail product identification and require compatible numeric values. A generated image does not make an invented number an officially assigned product identifier.

ITF14:
A numeric format commonly used for trade-item and packaging identifiers. Use a value that follows the requirements of the system where the barcode will be scanned.

Barcode Size, Color, and Testing

The tool allows a bar width from 1 to 6 and a height from 40 to 400 pixels. Larger settings can improve visibility, but a barcode still needs suitable dimensions for its final label and scanner. Use strong contrast between the bars and background, preserve clear space around the symbol, and test the downloaded SVG after placing or printing it.

Common Barcode Uses

  • Creating internal inventory or asset labels with CODE128.
  • Adding scannable identifiers to tickets, forms, or workflow documents.
  • Preparing an SVG barcode for a label or packaging layout.
  • Previewing an assigned EAN, UPC, or ITF14 value before testing it.

Barcode Generator FAQ

Why was my barcode value rejected?
The selected format may require a particular length, numeric input, supported character set, or valid check digit. Try CODE128 for a flexible internal identifier, or correct the value for the chosen format.

Does this generator provide an official UPC or EAN number?
No. It renders the number you enter. Retail identifiers normally need to be assigned through the appropriate standards organization or trading arrangement.

Does a successful preview guarantee that the barcode will scan?
No. Final readability also depends on dimensions, contrast, quiet space, print quality, material, placement, and the scanner being used.

What file does the tool download?
It downloads the generated barcode as an SVG vector image.
